I attended an ACA meeting in the Moncton Hospital years ago. I was there to research for a presentation. I discovered that I was an adult child of an alcoholic. Since that day I have gained so much personal understanding of the negative impact of living with an alcoholic.
By definition, you are living in such an environment when your family and your life is being negatively impacted by the drinking problem of another family member. It might be a parent, a sibling or even a close friend.
I don’t like to think of my Dad as an alcoholic. He kept it out of our sight for the most part but our home suffered for his use of alcohol. This video identifies the high functioning alcoholic … the person who has a problem that they successfully hide.
