If I ask you the question … “Pain, bad or good?”, most people will quickly respond that pain is a bad thing.
They’ll be wrong with that answer. Pain is a normal and inescapable part of life. It is a God-given way of telling us that something is wrong. If you lean on a hot stove, the resulting pain will convince you to move.
There are many types of pain, the most predominant being physical, mental and spiritual. In today’s world, when we hurt, the first thing we do is to reach for something to take the pain away. So if you have a nail stuck through your foot, would you remove, apply first aid and then reach for the pain killers or reach for the pain killers first?
In the case of mental or spiritual pain, do we seek counseling help or head for the medicine cabinet? Unless you remove the source of the pain there is no sense reaching for chemical relief unless you just want to escape reality forever.
Yes, dealing with emotional issues is painful. Yes, sometimes it takes a long time to work through things. I am not a doctor or a psychiatrist but I can tell you this, … if you don’t deal with what is causing your pain, it will NEVER go away and you may end up an addict trying to escape from it.
Take responsibility for your own life and its problems. If you are a victim, you don’t have to remain one forever. Everyone gets hurt and weary, some rise above and others die in defeat. If nothing changes … nothing changes. When you rise above and begin to help others, you will live life like never before.
